What does NHF support?

NHF provides:

  • Grants for service providers to deliver culturally responsive programs
  • Heartshare proceeds from 50/50 draws directed to community impact
  • Capacity-building resources for partner organizations
  • Advocacy and outreach initiatives that promote equity and healing

What is Heartshare?

Heartshare is NHF’s “charity share” of our 50/50 draws.

It represents the portion of ticket sales retained by NHF to fund our core programs and operational expenses.

How are NHF funds used and what do they cover?

NHF funding comes from two primary sources:

  • Partnership Grants
Funds awarded to trusted healthcare clinics, outreach programs, and community organizations delivering culturally responsive services aligned with our mission.

  • Heartshare 50/50 Draw Proceeds
Half of all proceeds from Heartshare draws remain with NHF to support core programs and operational needs.

NHF allocates those funds across our key focus areas:

  • Direct program delivery by vetted community partners
  • Core operations, including staffing, technology, and infrastructure
  • Impact measurement and reporting
  • Outreach, advocacy, and communications

NHF also underwrites a range of program types:

  • Service Access Supports
Mentorship circles and leadership-development programs for youth, individuals, and families. Connects participants to mental-health, educational, and wellness services, with costs covered or subsidized by NHF.

  • Program Sponsorships
Sponsorship of specific initiatives through external providers.

  • Community-Led Proposals
Funding for grassroots-driven projects such as wellness retreats and locally designed community-wellness initiatives.

*All expenditures are reviewed by NHF’s Board of Directors and published in our annual Impact Report.

What are unrestricted funds?

Unrestricted funds are donations or grants without usage restrictions.

They empower NHF to:

  • Cover essential operating costs
  • Pilot new initiatives
  • Bridge gaps between restricted grants
  • Scale proven programs

How Does NHF Measure Impact?

We track our progress through three key areas:

  • Participant Outcomes
Growth in well-being, skills, and learning.
  • Program Reach & Demographics
We record the number of people served, locations, and equity indicators.
  • Financial Stewardship
Annual audited statements detail how grants and Heartshare funds are distributed, including cost-per-participant.

What are Equity Indicators?

Equity indicators are demographic and socio-economic measures we track to identify service gaps and assess funding effectiveness. They ensure NHF’s Heartshare funds reach and benefit the most marginalized communities accordingly.
